what we are looking for in a rector
We are ready to welcome a new rector with whom we may build on the great foundation laid by our previous clergy, making St. John’s a stronger Christian community than ever before.
The ability to preach is the highest-priority quality that St. John’s parishioners desire in a new rector. We want a strong preacher who can inspire us through words, help us grow as Christians, and introduce positive change into our lives. Younger members of our church particularly emphasized the ability to preach as a highly desired quality.
The second overall quality we seek in a person is a sense of strong pastoral care; we desire someone to whom we can turn in times of need when we lack strength ourselves. Parishioners are looking for someone who has the ability to respond to people at significant points in their lives, such as death, sickness, dying, birth, trauma, success, and so on.
The third quality that the parish ranks as a very high priority is theological ability. St. John’s would like a theologian who can articulate faith using extensive knowledge of the Bible and religious studies to educate our parish.
St. John’s parishioners also desire a rector who can touch the lives of our youth, help us better serve our immediate community, and help those who are struggling.
We seek a rector who will serve as the parish’s spiritual leader to lead and train others in the formation and development of spiritual discipline, a worship leader who can plan and conduct liturgical services of public worship and can lead our parishioners from all walks of life in prayer and help us reflect the love of God in our daily lives. We are a thriving parish looking to grow as Christians and searching for a rector who shares our ideals and can broaden our vision and faith.
