Children's Choir

St. John's choirmaster Patrick O'Briant leads the Children's Choir rehearsal from 5 - 5:30

Patrick O'Briant conducts Junior Choir practice

p.m. on Wednesdays for ages 4 years old through 6th grade. Patrick is St. John's gifted organist and choirmaster and has more than 20 years of experience teaching music in K-2 at Cumberland County Schools. More than twenty children are learning a variety of age-appropriate Christian music. Also, they will receive an introduction to handbells. The Children's Choir performs at a 10:30 a.m. Sunday service two to three times a semester during the school year. After choir practice, the children partipate in Bible Adventures from 5:30-6 p.m. with Donnie Winston, the church's preschool director. Special Service Events and Activities

A J2A group participates in a Confidence Course at Methodist University

In addition to J2A, we do several youth activities together combining the middle and high school age groups. We have at least two events planned per month for the entire school year (some are local, some are beyond the city limits, some are service work, and some are strictly for fun) To add an extra incentive to attend these youth activities, we have implemented a point system in which a youth must earn points to participate in strictly fun trips, such as a ski trip. Students earn the most points from participating in diocesan youth events, such as Happening, or participating in service activities, such as mission trips. These events are given a greater weight of points because of the importance of becoming part of a larger church community through interaction with people outside our own church. Other point earning opportunities come from taking leadership roles in the church family (helping in Children's Chapel, for example).

Vacation Bible School

Each year St. John's and Holy Trinity Episcopal Churches co-sponsor Vacation Bible School for children ages 4-5 and first through fifth grade.  The theme will be Galilee-by-the-Sea. Participants will learn about Jewish traditions and how Jesus worshipped.  Teenage and adult volunteers will work in the "marketplace stalls" supervising crafts, acting  in daily biblical dramas , and helping with registration and making each morning run smoothly.
